Estimate for one item in one order. Etsy's invoice rounding, currency conversion and your actual tax treatment can change the final amount.
Read the estimate
Price the work as well as the materials.
The example starts with a £30 item and £4 charged for shipping. It allows £8 for materials, £1 for packaging, £3.50 for postage and 45 minutes of work at £12 per hour. Replace those figures with your own before using the result.
Profit after labour is the amount left after item costs, fees and your target hourly pay. Break-even item price is the minimum item price that covers those costs under the same settings. Available hourly pay shows how much the sale can pay for your time before deducting your chosen hourly target. Margin uses revenue after any tax included in your prices that you remit.
Shipping charged is money the buyer pays you. Actual postage and packaging are costs you pay. They can differ, and Etsy's percentage fees also apply to shipping charged. Free shipping still has a postage cost.
Which Etsy fees are included?
Choose your shop and payment-account currency, then your seller country. The calculator uses that country's Etsy Payments processing rate and any Regulatory Operating fee, alongside one US$0.20 listing or renewal fee and the 6.5% transaction fee. Australia, Canada and New Zealand also distinguish the buyer's location for processing fees.
Optional settings cover an attributed Offsite Ads sale, an allocation of Etsy Ads spending, tax on modelled seller fees and other Etsy charges you enter. Seller-fee tax uses a standard-rate country assumption where provided, including 20% for the UK; some profiles start with tax off. A submitted tax ID can change what Etsy charges in some countries. Check the selected tax settings against your invoice. Canada's provincial taxes are not calculated automatically. Texas sellers can include Etsy's tax on transaction fees.
The listing fee and US$100 Offsite Ads cap are converted using the displayed exchange rate. Available public reference rates provide an estimate; you can enter your invoice's rate manually. Added checkout tax collected by Etsy affects processing fees but is excluded from your income.
Use the same currency for your shop listing and payment account. A currency mismatch can incur Etsy's conversion fee and is outside this estimate. Extra unsold renewals, multi-item orders, refunds, deposits, subscriptions and shop setup charges need separate treatment or an allocation in Other Etsy fees. This estimate is per order and does not predict sales or include income tax.
Fee sources and assumptions · checked 6 October 2026
- Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy: US$0.20 listing or renewal, 6.5% transaction fees and currency conversion. One listing charge is allocated to this item.
- Etsy Payments processing rates: percentage and fixed amount depend on the seller country; Australia, Canada and New Zealand also distinguish buyer location. The selected rate appears in your fee breakdown. Processing includes additional checkout tax.
- Etsy's Regulatory Operating fee: country-specific rates, including 0.48% for UK sellers, applied to the item, shipping, gift wrap and personalisation extras.
- Etsy Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% on an attributed order, capped at US$100 before seller-fee tax. A shop that reaches US$10,000 in a 365-day period keeps the 12% rate for its lifetime. Choose the rate that Etsy applies to your shop.
- Etsy tax on seller fees, UK VAT rates and EU standard VAT rates: editable standard-rate presets assume tax is charged; check your region, submitted tax ID and invoice. This setting models a single tax rate on the displayed fees; it does not calculate provincial taxes, reverse-charge accounting or a tax return.
- Irish VAT rates, Swiss VAT rates and South African VAT rates: presets of 23%, 8.1% and 15% respectively. Etsy charges applicable fee VAT in these countries regardless of a submitted VAT ID. South African deposit-level charges are outside the per-order estimate.
- Etsy's Texas seller-fee tax: 6.25% tax on 80% of the transaction fee, equivalent to 5% of that fee. Other manually allocated Etsy fees should already include applicable tax.
- Bank of England exchange rates: the initial UK example uses £1 = US$1.3221 on 5 October 2026, or US$1 = £0.756372. Other currency choices can use WSN's available public reference rates or your entered rate. Etsy's conversion and rounding may differ.
